A study from the University of Washington shows going bald by the age of 30 may be a good thing because research suggests men whose hairlines start to recede at a young age are 45 percent less likely to get prostate cancer. Half of all men suffer hair-loss by the age of 50.
A new study shows a disparity of health care between men and women seeking medical treatment for heart attacks. The study in France shows women were far less likely than men to get angiography or angioplasty. Angiography is when dye is injected into blood vessels so blockages are visible on x-rays, and angioplasty is a procedure used to remove blockages. The study shows women were about twice as likely as men to die within a month of a heart attack, suggesting more invasive procedures should be used for women as well as men.
A new survey from the National Center for Health Statistics looked at the alcohol habits of American adults. It shows nearly 70 percent of men say they are drinkers as well as over half of the women surveyed. The researchers found Caucasian adults as well as those with high levels of education were the most likely to drink.
A new study finds it may be possible to fight breast cancer by freezing tumors. Michigan researchers tested the treatment called cryotherapy on a dozen patients who did not want to have surgery. The procedure killed the cancerous tumor and patients did not have any local recurrences of breast cancer for up to five years. Scientists suggest this could be a new way to treat the disease, but say more studies are needed.
