RENTON, Wash. - Drivers will definitely notice there is a bridge replacement project on Interstate 405 in Renton next weekend when it closes in both directions for 33 hours.

But they may not notice the salvage operation underway this week.

Workers are punching large holes in the surface of the old bridge so they can slide inside and remove recyclables.

Back int he 60s when the bridge was constructed, workers left the old plywood forms inside that were used to pour the bridge's concrete. Those pieces of wood, as well as the concrete, can be recycled, so workers cut holes in the bridge and are sending teams inside to retrieve the wood.
