SEATTLE -- A rare gull from Siberia has been spotted in an Okanogan County lake.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says Tuesday that one of their biologists spotted a Ross's Gull in Palmer Lake over the span of two days last week.
The Ross's gull is an East Siberian arctic species that normally winters at sea. It has only been documented in Washington state once before -- in 1994, near McNary Dam on the Columbia River.
Biologist Jeff Heinlen says spotting the rare gull is a "holiday present" for bird watchers in the state.
