SEATTLE – After 25 years on the air, Oprah Winfrey will end her highly successful talk show on Sept. 9, 2011.
In an e-mail to stations that air the show, Harpo, Inc. President Tim Bennett said Oprah will make the announcement to her viewers on Friday.
"Oprah's personal comments about this on tomorrow's live show will mark an historic television moment that we will all be talking about for years to come," writes Bennett.
Winfrey started her broadcasting career in Nashville, Tenn., and Baltimore, Md., before relocating to Chicago in 1984 to host WLS-TV's morning talk show "A.M. Chicago."
That show was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in 1985.
A year later, Winfrey established Harpo and her talk show went into syndication. In 1990, Winfrey opened Harpo Studios in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood.
In Seattle, The Oprah Winfrey Show airs on KING 5 at 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 9 p.m. on KONG 6/16. It also airs at 4 p.m. on KGW Newschannel 8 in Portland, KREM 2 in Spokane and KTVB Channel 7 in Boise.
