Cheney HS makes list of top U.S. schools for low income students

CHENEY, Wash. – Cheney High School is one of the top high schools for low-income students, according to Newsweek’s “Beating the Odds” list.

The “Beating the Odds” list features schools that prepare students for college while overcoming challenges posed by economic disadvantage.

Cheney High was ranked 299 out of 500 schools across the country and was the only high school selected from Eastern Washington. In total, five Washington State high schools made the list.

Cheney High School retains 80% of their students and has a counselor for every three students. 

On average, students score about a 1500 on the SAT and 21 on their ACT. 

Cheney's high school graduation rate is an impressive 94.7%.

No. 60 – Toppenish High School

No. 104 – Newport High School

No. 299 – Cheney High School

No. 343 – Ingraham High School

No. 421 – Bridgeport High School.
