SEATTLE-- The U.S. Department of Education is bringing its series of national conversations on English learner education to Seattle on Monday and Tuesday.

The deputy director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics will lead the meeting. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will speak to the group by video. The meeting will take place at the Seattle Hilton but will also be webcast.

Federal education officials say the purpose of the gathering is to share best practices, challenges and recommendations for educating English language learners. Ideas from the meetings will help guide policy. Other conversations have been held in Dallas, Chicago and Los Angeles. And upcoming meetings will take place in New York and Charlotte, N.C.
