BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham School District and Bellingham teachers have reached a tentative contract agreement to end a one-day strike.
Classes likely will start next Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Provisions are still being finalized and the contract must be voted on by the school board and the teachers union.
The teachers union, the Bellingham Education Association, voted Wednesday to strike on Friday, which had been planned as a teachers' work day.
Classes had been scheduled to begin next Tuesday but that day will now be used as a teachers' work day.
In a message to staff and school families, Superintendent Greg Baker says, "I am grateful this is behind us."
