Victim in Spokane Co. homicide was nephew of Montana U.S. senator

SPOKANE, Wash. --- A man killed in Spokane County this week has been identified as the nephew of Montana U.S. Senator Jon Tester.

Court documents show deputies found the victim dead at a home on Kenney Road near East Stutler Road on Tuesday morning. There was a child, later identified as the victim’s daughter, at the scene when deputies responded at about 7:20 a.m. The child was not injured.

Documents said the man’s 8-year-old daughter called a family member who then called police. The girl said someone broke into their house and killed her dad.

Court documents said blood was found throughout the home and an ax was found near the body that had suspected bloodstains on it.

Marnee Banks, Tester’s communications director, told KBZK in Bozeman that the senator would “prefer privacy during this difficult time.”
