Portland robbery suspect shot after firing shots, leading police on chase

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. -- A Portland robbery suspect was shot after he fired shots and led police on a chase that ended in Lake Oswego.

The suspect, a man, was taken to a hospital. He was not immediately identified.

The crime spree began late Tuesday morning at the Aladdin Inn, at 8905 SW 30th Ave. in Portland, where the suspect fired a shot and robbed the hotel, according to police.

A witness told police the suspect ran out of the hotel towards a gas station and got into a white van, which had several occupants inside, including children. Police don't know if there was a connection between the suspect and the other people in the van.

The suspect led police through Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego, firing shots at officers and crashing into several vehicles. The pursuit eventually ended in the area of Southwest 63rd Avenue and Lower Boones Ferry Road in Lake Oswego, where the suspect was shot and taken into custody.

Another witness said he heard several gunshots and saw officers with assault rifles telling everyone to go inside.
