Police: Drunk, speeding driver crashes into unoccupied patrol car

Drunk driver hits Portland police car

PORTLAND, Ore. – A drunk driver was speeding and slammed into an unoccupied patrol car while an officer was conducting an unrelated investigation in Northeast Portland Friday night, according to police.

The crash occurred at around 11:10 p.m. at the intersection of Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 112th Avenue.

The officer’s car was blocking eastbound Sandy Boulevard with its emergency lights flashing. The officer was investigating a car-pedestrian crash.

The driver of the car, 18-year-old Damian Begay, was taken to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was not hurt.

Begay was cited for DUII and reckless driving.

Police say the pedestrian struck in the initial call was not seriously hurt.
