SPOKANE, Wash. --- A Spokane Valley man faces charges after allegations he sexually abused a now 12-year-old girl over the last two years.

Officials arrested and charged Marvin E. Petersen, 85, with two counts of rape of a child in the first degree. He was also charged with child molestation in the first degree, four counts of child molestation in the second degree and charged with unlawful imprisonment.

Detectives arrested Petersen on Nov. 23 after investigating the sexual abuse allegations.

Investigators believe due to the uncharged or unreported sexual assault behaviors dating all the way back to the 1950’s, there may be other unidentified young victims who have not come forward.

Some of the known sexual assault behavior crimes were reported to law enforcement officers in Oregon. However, due to the incidents occurring in the 1950’s, charges could not be filed since the statue of limitations had expired.

The female victims of the abuse range from 9 to 14 years old. The victims are family or former family members living with or in the area of Petersen. Petersen lives off East 6th Avenue in Spokane Valley.

Although Petersen does not have a known criminal conviction history, detectives believe there are potentially other victims. Petersen’s photo is being released to help detectives try and identify other victims or witnesses who have not come forward yet.

If you have been victimized by Petersen or have any information about other crimes Petersen may have committed, you are asked to call Sexual Assault Unit Detective Brandon Armstrong at 509-477-6610.
