REDMOND, Wash. - More than a hundred moms met up on the Microsoft campus today for the 1st annual "Wired Moms" summit, where they learned the basics, like bringing technology into their homes, without being afraid of it.
"A lot of parents think the easiest way to keep their kids safe is to cut off the technology and I'll tell you that's the only guarenteed way to make sure your kids are hurt," says Parry Altab a cyberweb attorney and expert on issues involving children and the Internet.
Facebook, video games and texting, Altab says they can all be useful tools if parents take a few moments to regularly go through them with their children.
"We found that there's a lot of moms out there that are tech savvy but when they get home from work they're very tired and they don't even want to spend anytime on the computer," said Altab. "Kids need technology, they need it for their education they need it for the world, but they need to use it safely and responsibly."
The group plans to meet a few times a year to brush up on the latest technology. Altab says the more they're informed, the safer their children will be.
