SEATTLE – A Washington state preschool teacher is using a game loved by millions to teach kids about their home state and to get families to spend more time together.
"I love the idea of the family learning and doing things together," says Miss Lisa, the creator of Washington Bingo. "So the idea for learning more about our state came in the design of a game that would be easy to play and fun for all ages."
Washington Bingo comes on a CD that includes four bingo games. The themes include famous Washington icons, city names, tourist attractions, and recreational fun.
"Great pictures that highlight the best of Washington State are part of each game," says Miss Lisa.
Also included in the CD are word searches, crosswords, puzzles, maps, door signs and postcards.
Miss Lisa (she likes to go by that name, "kind of like Cher," she says) developed the game in just a month.
"As a lifelong Washingtonian the inspiration was all around," she says.
This isn't a money-maker for Miss Lisa. She's only charging a penny, plus shipping. She says in these budget-conscious times, every penny counts. She'd rather you use that money to get out and experience Washington state.
"… plan a weekend trip to a nearby city, a trek to the local farmer's market, a tour of a community museum, or simple dining out in a family owned restaurant … " she says.
Miss Lisa has been a preschool teacher for 15 years and a parent for even longer than that. "Reflecting on both experiences, I know it is the time spent together that matters most to families. These are the best talking times, sharing times, discovering times and fun times," she says.
