Not long after there was credit card reform in Congress, scammers were right there ready to take advantage of customers.
Viewer John Cleveland wrote me from Onalaska saying he got a call from a person who said he could lower his credit card interest rate to 6%. To make that happen, the caller began asking for John's credit card numbers. That didn't sound right, so I spoke to Attorney General Rob McKenna for his thoughts.
"It's a big red flag that they are asking for your credit card number because they want to charge you upfront. It's a warning sign that they are calling you and that you haven't found them through credible sources," he said.
So, John, forget about it!
Olympic tickets: Also in the mailbag an update on Meg Names who got burned buying $3,000 worth of tickets to the Olympic women's ice skating finals. The broker didn't come through with the tickets, but after we called he did send a full refund. Later Meg found tickets to the event and took her granddaughter Amanda along for the trip.
DOL state park fee: Jen Kapelke from Everett is one of many people who wrote us angry about the Department of Licensing adding $5 to every registration for state parks. You don't have to pay it. If you want, just opt out. Whether it's online or a paper renewal, just check the box and deduct $5. It's that simple. I'm not saying donating to state parks is a bad thing. I'm just letting you know that you have a choice to pay the cash or not.
