Video: Woman's couch payments mysteriously disappear

RENTON, Wash. - Nancy Jochaim picked her new couch from Macy's partly because she liked the tranquil color, but there's been nothing quiet about her journey to pay for the it. In fact, she's red hot about it.

"I know they want their money and I want the couch, it's a fair deal. They just need to get with the program," she said.

This program is a drama and a mystery. Nancy bought the couch on a 6-month, no-interest promotion and started making payments right away. The check cleared, but it didn't show up on her account.

"I said, where's my money? Why can't you find it? I said if you are not applying it to my account, why didn't you send it back?" she wondered.

Macy's asked Nancy to prove she had paid them and then waited for the results of their investigation. The company also gave her the address and account number to send her next payment. That check cleared, but included a little message from Macy's.

"Right on the front of my check it says this will not be credited to an account, and I thought ahhhh!"

It's all pretty confusing. Macy's Web site says to make payments to Columbus, Ohio, but Nancy was asked to send her payment to The Lakes, Nevada. Topping it all off, she was asked to fax proof of payment to a Phoenix-area number.

Not a bottom line answer was to be found anywhere, and she was not able to find a direct number to the finance company.

After two months of waiting, Nancy called me and I called Macy's.

Then Macy's called Nancy.

"First they said we got a call from KING 5. I said, I bet you did," she said.

The company let her know the money was now in her account.

"I don't know how you got them to find it," she continued. "When I called they couldn't find it, but when you call, they can find it right away."

Macy's says Nancy did not have her account number on the checks, but Nancy says she called and got the account number from the company and wrote it on one of the checks.

Regardless, we're glad they finally figured out where the money went.
