LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A nonprofit group's campaign to hold free medical clinics for the uninsured in three states aims to persuade moderate Democrats to support their party's health care reform efforts.
More than 800 people have signed up for Saturday's clinic in downtown Little Rock organized by the National Association of Free Clinics. A New Orleans event Nov. 14 attracted more than 1,000 people. Kansas City, Mo. will host a clinic Dec. 9-10.
It is the Virginia-based association's second such event in a month under a campaign promoted by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann.
Olbermann says he wants the six Democratic senators holding out on reform to be forced to see just how many people need free health care.
The Senate is expected to start debating the legislation Saturday night.
