PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Chapter 11 trustee in Maine says he anticipates a "nine-figure" settlement fund for victims of a rail disaster that killed 47 people in Quebec in July.

Robert Keach outlined his vision for how victims will ultimately be compensated Friday as attorneys clashed over whether lawsuits filed in Chicago should be moved to federal court in Maine, where Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railways filed for bankruptcy following the fiery derailment.

Keach said wrongful death cases, property damage and environmental claims would draw from the same fund set up by defendants, possibly overseen by a Canadian monitor.

More than two dozen attorneys were on hand Friday as a judge heard arguments on whether lawsuits in Chicago should be allowed to proceed or be consolidated in Maine.
