PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Even with the rise of wrinkle-free fabrics and the decision to nix it as a Monopoly token, the clothes iron is holding its own.
Market research group Euromonitor International says U.S. iron sales are up nearly 3 percent overall from 2007 to 2012. And steam generator irons that make more steam than traditional ones and speed up the process experienced what the group called "enormous growth."
Plus, some people don't mind ironing. Kim Kalunian, of Rhode Island, irons nearly everything and says she finds the chore and the hiss of the steam therapeutic.
Online voters this week kicked the iron out of the iconic board game. It's being replaced by a cat.
