RATHDRUM, Idaho-- A young woman who drove in front of a cargo train in Rathdrum, Idaho Thursday morning was dead when deputies got to the scene, according to Kootenai County Sheriff's Deputies investigating the collision.

It happened around 8 a.m. Thursday at the tracks near Ramsey Rd., just north of Boekel Rd.  Deputies say it is not a main route for trains, and there are no flashing lights or crossing arms at the intersection.

The train engineer told deputies he saw the white car stop briefly, but then it continued on into the train's path.  The two collided, and the train pushed the car about 70 feet down the tracks before it rolled off to the side.

Deputies say driver was deceased when they arrived.  They found some possible identification inside the car, but will continue their investigation and contact family before releasing the name.  Deputies said they could only describe the deceased driver as a "young woman".

As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the train was still stopped on the tracks and blocking the intersection as the investigation continued.
