On Tuesday, a humpback whale was rescued after it became entangled in crab pot gear off the Washington coast.
Staff from Cascadia Research worked with the Coast Guard and National Marine Fisheries Service to free the whale, which was trapped near Grays Harbor.
The humpback whale was 35-40 feet long and around 3 to 5 years old, according to Cascadia Research.
Crews reached the whale around 1:30 p.m. and finally freed the whale from the gear around 5:15 p.m. Markings on a float attached to the lines wrapped around the whale indicated it was a pot from Oregon.
