Tacoma police arrested a University Place teacher Thursday for alleged selling narcotics.

The FBI's South Sound Gang Task Force and the DEA Task-Force Tactical Diversion Squad served a  warrant at the teacher's home and took him into custody without incident.

During a search of the home, officers recovered pills and heroin. The suspect claimed he did not sell drugs to students. According to police, the 33-year-old man would leave school to make sales. He also admitted to smoking heroin during daytime breaks at school.

University Place Superintendent Patti Banks said this is "shocking information" to the district.

He was taken to Pierce County Jail and booked for two counts of Unlawful Delivery and one count of Unlawful Possession of a controlled substance.

The school district has placed the teacher on leave. He was hired in Sept. 2007.
