TACOMA -- There have been no services at Golgotha Baptist Church since last year, just before the first fire. As plans were being drawn up to make repairs, it was set on fire again in February, 2014. Wednesday, it's final demolition began.
"It's weird to tear it down and destroy God's house," said project manager Joe Haener, "At the same time, somebody else came in and did a bad deed. And we're going to fix it."
Haener is with Hilbers Inc., and is supervising the clearing and rebuilding of the old church.
Demolition is expected to finish by Friday. Plans to construct a new church in the same location are working through Pierce County now. Haener expects final approval by September.
"People are going to know this church is back," he said, "When we're done this time, (arson) won't happen again. This time, it's here forever."
