Tacoma Police say a woman was found dead inside an apartment on South Highland Avenue at about two p.m. Friday. A murder investigation is underway to determine who killed her and why.
Detectives weren't saying much as they processed the scene for evidence. They spent nearly nine hours at the scene.
Neighbors, however, suspect it a case of domestic violence that turned deadly.
"I heard them fighting about four days before," said neighbor Cheryl Wilson. "I just heard screaming, her screaming 'he's going to kill me' - so loud it was like it was coming through my wall."
Wilson and several other neighbors told KING 5 the couple that had moved in just last month fought constantly.
Last week, Wilson recalls a few neighbors intervening in a particularly violent dispute.
"The people next door to her literally kicked the door in to stop him and get him off of her," she said.
She said she hasn't seen the man or the woman in several days, and suspects her neighbor might've been killed earlier in the week. She wishes she could've done more to help save her.
Tacoma Police have not confirmed whether this is indeed a case of domestic violence. They also couldn't say whether they have a suspect in custody.
