SEATTLE -- An alert for Metro bus riders: some big changes are coming to Metro buses throughout King County which will affect thousands of bus riders starting this weekend.

Almost two dozen bus routes will see changes. One reason is because of major construction to the Alaskan Way Viaduct and seawall replacement project.

To avoid construction delays and keep buses moving, bus routes on 1st Avenue, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Avenues are shifting. Starting on Saturday, routes on 1st Avenue will shift over to 3rd Avenue. And, to make room for those buses, routes on 3rd will move to 2nd and 4th avenues. That means there will be new bus stops as well.

Nearly 24 bus routes will be adjusted throughout King County. Metro says some of the changes will help reduce costs and be more efficient. And with all these changes, riders may notice a difference in their bus schedules. Some trips may be gone and riders might have to wait longer to transfer.

But, not all bus routes are scaling back. More bus services will be added across the 520 bridge and there will be a new bus route connecting Kenmore to First Hill.

To check how this affects your commute, go to the King County Metro website to view the complete list of schedule and reroute changes.
