LITTLEROCK, Wash. - Instead of battling at the state Capitol, state lawmakers faced off at a gun range for the "Legislative Shootout."
In the semi-regular event dating back to the 1980's, lawmakers participate in a shooting competition at a range south of Olympia.
"It's fabulous. I had a blast," said Senator Bob Hasegawa, D-Seattle.
Hasegawa said he's no avid sportsman, but likes to go shooting.
"This is a huge part of Washington state's economy," said Senator Pam Roach, R-Auburn.
Roach, who has been part of every shootout, said the competition gives novice shooters a chance to learn why the hobby is so popular.
"Many of the people here have never shot before," said Roach.
Roach hopes the shootout will show novices that gun use is a safe hobby, when done responsibly.
