CALDWELL -- Two Canyon County Sheriff's deputies were shot and wounded by a wanted suspect in Caldwell after a standoff situation Tuesday night.

The incident happened at approximately 11 p.m. near a home on Sheryl Lane, just off Interstate 84.

Police say 27-year-old Kyle Alan Batt shot the deputies after they confronted him about an aggravated assault he had allegedly taken part in. Caldwell Police had asked for help from the Canyon County Sheriff's Office to find him.

Chief Deputy Kieran Donahue says Batt fired multiple shots at deputies when they came to the door of the home. At least one deputy was able to return fire before Batt ran from the home.

A SWAT team was able to track and find Batt using a police dog. Deputies say he was found hiding in a garage near Richway Drive around 2:45 a.m.

When confronted by SWAT members, Batt shot himself. He's currently at a local hospital with unknown injuries.

According to authorities, one of the injured deputies was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. The other deputy is reportedly in serious condition. Both are said to be 6-year veterans of the sheriff’s office.
