SEATTLE -- Plans are on track for the Broadway Streetcar Project, which will run north through Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. The $25 million project will be a one-half mile extension of the new First Hill Streetcar line, which will open later this year.

“It’s going to be wonderful for the businesses. Capitol Hill is one of the highest densities of any of our urban neighborhoods,” said Seattle Department of Transportation official Art Brochet.

The Broadway Streetcar Project will extend north of Denny and Broadway where the First Hill line ends. Brochet said it would bring the streetcar through the Capitol Hill commercial district.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is hosting an open house on the project Tuesday at Lowell Elementary from 6-8pm. SDOT will explain the design concepts and proposed station locations.

Brochet said the project still needs to be funded. Construction could start in the fall of 2016.
