Wednesday night, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck off Vancouver Island in Canada, but was felt by people in Washington. The quake did little damage but was a wake up call because of where it happened.

Seismologist Bill Steele said part of the worry with the earthquake was figuring out what kind of tremor it was. The quake was positioned in such a way that it could have signaled something much larger.

Scientists say it was on a fault that is connected to the subduction zone, which they believe will trigger a huge earthquake along the West Coast one day.
