PORTLAND -- Grant High School Principal Joseph Malone has a plan to give breathalyzer tests to students attending the school's prom on May 14.
He has spoken with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission and the school's PTA about the plan, he said. Malone has also planned a meeting with parents, but a date has not yet been set.
No one on the Grant High staff would administer the tests, which would be done by an OLCC employee. The prom is the only school event this year where the plan would be used, he said.
Malone, who retires after this school year, said no specific incidents prompted him to pursue the idea. He said he wants everyone to have a good time and that alcohol use would ruin that.
