GLADSTONE, Ore. -- A traffic stop late Wednesday night led to a chase and the driver fired a shot at pursuing officers. He then fled on foot, leading to a manhunt before his arrest early Thursday morning.
The incident began about 11:30 p.m. when police pulled a man over and found out he had an outstanding warrant out of Yamhill County for an assault charge.
He sped off, stopping to fire at least one shot at Clackamas County sheriff's deputies. He ditched the car, prompting a call out of tactical police and an airplane with heat-sensing equipment.
The plane found the man hiding in berry bushes along Kellogg Creek, near Mabel Avenue and Merganser Court. He was taken into custody.
There was a report of an unspecified injury to a Gladstone police officer that did not involve gunfire, according to the sheriff's office.
Michael Newell, 26, was treated by medics. Charges were pending.
