THE DALLES, Ore. -- Police canceled an Amber Alert Wednesday morning after a 5-year-old boy from The Dalles was found safe, and the suspect in his abduction was taken into custody, police said.
The child was reportedly taken from his home just before 6 a.m. Wednesday by 36-year-old Brian Lester Depriest of The Dalles, according to Oregon State Police.
Depriest went into the home and assaulted two adults with a hammer, OSP reported. The suspect and the boy's mother knew each other.
The man and the child were found in Dufur, Oregon, which is just south of The Dalles on Hwy 197, according to the Wasco County Sheriff's Office.
