AUBURN, Wash. – One person is dead and two others wounded following a shooting in Auburn. The surviving victims are at Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.
Police tell KING 5's Chris Daniels four people are under arrest including one for allegedly assaulting a police officer in the aftermath of the shooting. The officer's injuries are not life threatening.
Officers are looking for a fifth suspect.
Investigators tell us the altercation started as an argument at a barbecue in the courtyard of the Aspen Meadows Apartmens on 21st Street SE and escalated into gunfire.
Valerie Vasquez said she was setting up a yard sale when she heard shots but thought it was just fireworks.
"At 4 o’clock we hear more gunshots and we see two males running towards us, and then there’s a guy behind with a gun, so the first thing we did was grab our kids and ran into the house and got down on the floor away from the windows," she said.
"Then we started to hear more shooting and people screaming and yelling and that’s when we said, 'Oh my God, somebody got shot.'"
The reason for the shooting is not known.
Police say anywhere from 30 to 50 people are involved as wintesses or suspects. They range in age from 16 to 20.
