HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A Portland area naturopathic doctor was murdered over a drug deal, his death then was made to look like a suicide, detectives said Friday.

On Sunday, March 14 Washington County Sheriff's deputies found 46-year-old Dr. David Greenspan dead in a car near the Emanuel Cemetery on 1500 NW Cornelius Schefflin Road.

The naturopathic doctor who had practiced at a Tigard clinic had been shot in the head. Police also found a handgun at the scene.

At first, investigators thought it was a suicide, but an autopsy showed two more gunshot wounds and homicide detectives began talking to more people who knew Greenspan.

Deputies called what they found "a troubling picture involving drug use and drug sales."

The facts that emerged led investigators to 32-year-old Brian Daniel Bement (Pictured, top), of Hillsboro, a man acquaintances said was set to make a drug deal with Greenspan the day before the murder. Witnesses also told police Brement had been seen with a gun that day.

Surveillance video from the McDonalds in North Plains showed Greenspan and Bement in the restaurant together in the hours before the shooting and discovery of the body not far away.

Bement was arrested Thursday week by U.S. Marshals on warrants for domestic violence and weapons charges. He was charged with murder in the Greenspan case Friday.

Investigators were looking for anyone who had information about Bement or his activities in the past two weeks. Specifically, they want to talk to whoever gave Bement a ride Saturday afternoon after seeing him hitchhiking in the area.

Bement is 5'11' tall with a slender build.  He has blue eyes and dark brown hair.
