TROUTDALE, Ore. – Deputies are searching for a man who walked into the woods after he crashed his vehicle Monday night.

Kyle Peterson, 29, crashed his vehicle on Southeast Stark Street near Southeast 35th Street around 8:19 p.m., according to Lt. Steve Alexander with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Police showed up to the scene and briefly spoke with Peterson who then turned and walked into a heavily wooded area southeast of the crash, Alexander said.

The officer repeatedly told Peterson to stop because he said the terrain was hazardous. Peterson, however, walked away and was not seen since.

"This is a complete mystery," said Lynn Bauer, Peterson's mother.  "There's no evidence of anything."

Deputies showed up with a K-9 to help search the area but didn’t find him. Search and rescue teams were canvassing the area. Anyone with information was asked to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at 503-255-3600.

"We just want to get the word out that we miss him and love him and want him to come home."
