PORTLAND – A landslide forced the closure of a busy on-ramp to Highway 26 Sunday night.
Trees and heavy debris fell onto the roadway at the Jefferson on-ramp to U.S. 26.
Officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation said the ramp would remain closed until crews could fully assess the damage.
Experts will study the slide to determine if it’s possible to safety secure the hillside before re-opening the roadway.
Many area roads were also covered with high water in some areas, due to heavy rainfall. As of Sunday night, Portland's June rain total had already reached 2.96 - quickly inching closer to the record 4.06 recorded back in 1984.
The rainfall was expected to taper off on Monday and Tuesday, before returning in full force on Wednesday and Thursday.
