SEATTLE - You know what they say, one picture is worth a thousand words. Well, if that's the case, you've got to see what some students at the Experience Music Project have been doing. They're taking pictures like there's no tomorrow.
"Being a part of the emotion that's in the scene," says Pavielle Montes, a student at EMP's Rock Photography summer camp.
Montes isn't talking about the rocks you hold in your hand. We’re talking about bands, and how to shoot pictures of them.
No one knows how to take rock pictures better than Charles Peterson, who was Nirvana's photographer and who is one of the best in the business. Peterson is teaching the kids.
"It's my way of giving back," says Peterson who encourages his students to "get down there and get the elbows out. And get the shot!"
That's what it's ALL about - getting the shot and getting the person who looks at your photograph to feel something.
A good picture makes you feel the music. Hear the music.
"How to get intimate with the photos," says student Autumn Clark.
The Rock Photography summer camp costs about $400, but scholarships are available.
There are several other camps at the EMP, including ones for Rock Band, Vocal Performance, and Blues Guitar.
The class has one last assignment, and that's to shoot a rock band at Bumbershoot over the Labor Day weekend.
