Joint Base Lewis-McChord has identified a soldier stabbed to death during a fight early Saturday morning in Lakewood as Spc. Tevin A. Geike, 20.

Geike, of Summerville, SC, was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division.

According to unit records, Spc. Geike entered the Army in October 2010 and arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in April 2011.

The Lakewood Police Department said the stabbing occurred early Saturday morning as the 20-year-old soldier was walking with two of his friends from Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Glenn Zimmerman was with the group.

"A car drove by yelled something about them being white... one of my buddies said something about disrespecting a combat veteran," he said.

The car turned around and stopped next to the soldiers.  Police say five black males got out of the car and started an argument.

One took out a knife and stabbed Geike, who died at the scene.

Surveillance video from a nearby business caught someone running away.

The suspect vehicle is described as a midnight blue BMW type sedan or VW Jetta type car with four doors, tinted windows and stock rims/low profile tires.
