GLENNS FERRY, Idaho -- Firefighters continue to battle a fire six miles to the north of Glenns Ferry.
The fire, which is estimated at 3,889 acres, is being handled by firefighters from both the Boise Bureau of Land Management and the Twin Falls Bureau of Land Management.
The South Trail fire reported just before 4:00 p.m. Saturday. It was originally estimated at 5,000 acres, but a helicopter survey reduced that estimate.
BLM Dispatch said there are 12 engines, 4 dozers, 5 helicopters, 2 heavy air tankers, 5 single engine air tankers, 2 air attack planes, 3 water tenders and a 20 person hand crew on scene working to contain the fire. The crews made progress on the fire overnight. BLM said there was some active burning Sunday morning, but that there was no significant increase in the acreage the fire had consumed.
The dispatcher also said that the fire had gotten down into an area with steep canyons, which has made it more difficult to battle. The fire is suspected to be human-caused.
Firefighters are tentatively looking at having the fire contained sometime Monday afternoon. No homes or other structures are currently threatened
