GOVERNMENT CAMP – Police were searching for a 71-year-old hiker Monday who disappeared with his dog near Mount Hood, authorities said.

Gary Tuor of Sandy was reported missing by his wife, Sandra Cleveland, Monday around noon after he went hiking and hadn't returned Sunday night.

Cleveland said Tuor had been hiking with his black lab, Buddy, and his hiking partner, 38-year-old Abel Caba, at the Devil's Meadow Campground near Zigzag Mountain west of Mount Hood, according to Lieutenant Robert Wurpes of the Clackamas County Sheriff's office.

Cleveland drove to the trailhead Monday morning and found Tuor's car. Caba found his way back to the car but said he and Tuor had gotten separated the night before.

Search and rescue crews along with a National Guard helicopter were looking for Tuor and his dog near Highway 26 outside of Zigzag Monday night, Wurpes said.

Tuor was reportedly in good health and was familiar with the area.
