GASTON, Ore. -- A helicopter crashed near Haag Lake in Gaston Thursday morning.
The crash was reported just after 8 a.m. near the Stimson Lumber Mill at 49800 SW Scoggins Valley Road, according to Sgt. Bob Ray of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
The pilot, 31-year-old Warren Larson of California, was the only person in the 1969 Bell helicopter when it crashed. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
He was working for Newberg's Western Helicopter Services, dropping mosquito treatment into a log pond.
The helicopter tilted on takeoff and only made it about 20 feet in the air before it came down, witnesses said.
