PORTLAND – The heat in Portland was forcing TriMet to slow down its MAX trains.
The trains will travel 10 mph slower in all areas where the speed limit is normally 35 mph or higher. This is because high temperatures can cause overhead power lines to sag and rails to expand, according to TriMet spokeswoman Bekki Witt.
She said Amtrak trains experience the same problems during heat waves.
Riders were advised to expect minor delays.
