Central Pierce Fire and Rescue fought a 2-alarm fire in the Evergreen Building on the Washington State Fairgrounds early Monday morning.
The building is one of the oldest at the fairgrounds, and was remodeled in 2013. The south end of the building housed animals during the Spring Fair, while the northwest end was home to Sales Lunch, a food concessionaire. When firefighters responded, they had to remove animals from the building. One pig died in the fire. Lamas, bunnies, sheep and chickens suffered from smoke inhalation.
Officials say the roof of the Evergreen Building collapsed in the fire.
The Spring Fair wrapped up on Sunday at 8 p.m.
