ABERDEEN, Wash. - A 3-alarm fire in the center of Aberdeen destroyed a home improvement store Tuesday evening.
It took about an hour for the fire to break through the roof and shoot into the sky.
The fire started at about 6 p.m. The building is right off the main street through downtown Aberdeen, so hundreds watched as it burned.
The employees of Moore's Interiors had already left for the night, so firefighters do not think anyone was inside when the fire started, but the home improvement business was full of flammables.
The entire roof of the structure failed and fell in on the second floor and its contents.
No one was injured.
Units from Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Cosmopolis, Montesano, and Grays Harbor Fire District 2 responded. Six engines, 2 ladders, and a number of other support units responded with approximately 45 firefighters.
Investigators said I Street between Heron and State was closed and State Street between H & I will also remain closed until building stability can be determined.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
