Fircrest police are investigating an attempted child luring that took place around 7 a.m. Wednesday near Whittier Elementary School.

Police say a man in a gold four-door sedan asked a 13-year-old three times if he could her a ride. The girl walked to a neighbor's house and he drove away northbound on Alameda Avenue.

The suspect is described as a chubby Asian or Black man in his mid 30s. He was wearing a baseball hat and white jacket with a black and a red stripe on the shoulder.

Police and Fircrest schools plan to send out flyers warning kids and the neighborhood about the incident.

The flyer includes tips for kids to stay safe, including:
- Use the buddy system, walking in groups of two or more
- Never get in a stranger's vehicle or go with stranger
- Fight, shout, scream, bite, kick, run and tell
- Never take anything a stranger offers
- Immediately tell adults about suspicious people or activities
- Remain on school grounds during school hours

Anyone with information about this attempted luring should contact the Fircrest Police Department at 253-565-1198.
