OSO, Wash. – A Darrington middle school teacher wanted to help the community affected by Saturday’s massive landslide, and the entire 6th grade volunteered along with her.

The group made 300 care packages for all of the volunteers based out of Darrington.

“The words that they’re putting into their notes are so huge and so heartfelt,” said Erin Lesperance. “It’s really impacted them in a huge way.”

The kind gesture was enough to bring a tear to many of the volunteers' eyes. It’s also a gesture that’s helping the children.

“It gives you hope that if these young people can find the strength to just carry on and move forward and be so positive in their words and thoughts...the rest of us can too,” Lesperance said.
