MARYSVILLE, Wash. – A Marysville school board member accused of being racially insensitive is stepping down.

Michael Kundu announced his resignation without addressing the e-mail that ignited the controversy.

In it, he claimed that race plays a quote "definitive factor" in academic performance.

In his resignation letter, Kundu urged the board members to aggressively pursue the best available science to improve academic performance.
