NAMPA -- A child has died and four more are injured after a dump truck and school bus crashed near Deer Flat and Happy Valley roads south of Nampa just before 8 a.m.
According to the Canyon County Coroner, an 11-year-old boy from Nampa died at the scene of the crash.
Two of the four injured children were transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, while the remaining two more were taken to Saint Alphonsus in Nampa.
Police say 10 elementary school children were on the bus at the time of the crash.
Officials at the Kuna School District have confirmed that the bus was headed to Crimson Point Elementary.
Jenni Anderson, communications coordinator for the Kuna School District, said the bus involved was bus number 11.
Sergeant John Burke with the Idaho State Police says the circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, but it appears the truck was headed northbound, while the bus was headed eastbound when both collided at the intersection.
Authorities say the bus clearly sustained damage to its right rear while the truck was damaged from the front. There is a two way stop at the intersection and those traveling on Deer Flat Road have a stop sign.
Crash reconstruction experts from the Idaho State Police are currently working at the scene to learn the cause of the accident.
