NORTH SPOKANE-- Spokane Police says bomb techs rendered an explosive device safe in North Spokane around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Tuesday afternoon, just before 2pm, a neighbor living in the area called police to report he located what he thought was a bomb inside a vehicle.
The man explained that he was looking inside a vehicle that had been “abandoned” in the area the day before. He found a tube with a fuse on the end inside the car, recognized the potential threat and called police.
Officer. Bode, who had checked on the report of the abandoned vehicle the day before, responded again. Monday, the vehicle, which had a flat tire, was parked legally and no police enforcement was necessary at that time. Officer Bode reported he did not see a device inside the vehicle when he investigated.
Tuesday the neighbor who initially called police reported he was looking through the inside of the car, located the device wedged in between the seats, picked up the device, realized it could be dangerous, placed the device on the front seat and then called police. Officer Bode recognized the potential danger and called the Spokane Regional Explosive Disposal Unit.
Technicians rendered the device safe, collected evidence and will determine whether or not criminal charges exist.
The bomb squad robot was used on the vehicle. The bomb squad set a charge to it and it exploded around 3:45 p.m.
Police have interviewed the car's owner but don't have information of why the IED. Was in there at this time
No arrests have been made
No one was injured.
