BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A 12-year-old girl was in fair condition at a local hospital after she collided with a school bus while riding her bicycle in Beaverton Thursday afternoon.
"You can do whatever you want to stop it,' said Officer Pete Dalton. "But sometimes they happen."
The accident occured on Center St. at the Arts and Communication Magnet Academy.
Beaverton police said the bus was pulling out of driveway at the west end of the school when the two collided. It was unknown who hit who. The girl broke a leg and suffered a crushed foot.
"I felt some impact," said Kyra Walters, who was on the bus. "She was screaming and I was crying a lot because she was my best friend and I've known her since coming to this school."
The girl was taken to a Portland hospital and was expected to recover.
A spokesperson for Beaverton School District said the district will review safety and bus procedures in light of what happened.
"Certainly this is an unfortunate accident," said Maureen Wheeler.
