GREENVILLE, Ky. — Nine people were killed and two were seriously injured early Thursday in a house fire in Muhlenberg County, a Greenville Fire Department dispatcher said.
Greenville Assistant Fire Chief Roger Chandler says 11 people lived at the home in Muhlenberg County, and two were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., for treatment.
The fire started at about 2 a.m. on Motes Lane in Greenville, the dispatcher said. Firefighters from three area departments responded to the scene.
Vanderbilt University Hospital spokeswoman Dagny Stuart confirmed one adult and one child were brought there from the fire. The adult was taken to the main ER while the child was taken to the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt.
The conditions and names of the fire victims were not immediately available, Stuart said.
No information was immediately available on the relationship of the victims to each other or the suspected cause of the fire. Firefighters were still at the scene shortly after 7 a.m.
Greenville is about 130 miles southwest of Louisville.
